PRP filler is a safe and cost-effective technique which uses autologous growth factors (harvested from your own blood) to help rejuvenate your skin and reverse the aging process.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) naturally stimulates your skin to manufacture more collagen and elastin, which smooths out fine lines and wrinkles as well as volumizing deeper wrinkles. PRP is an excellent choice for under-eye tear troughs, nasal labial folds, marionette lines, peri-oral lip lines, as well as a lip filler. PRP filler improves the texture of the area treated, lifts acne scars, and can fill in cheeks and chins.
This dermal injection technique uses a new preparation method of PRP as a natural alternative to synthetic dermal and hypodermal augmentation products.
The injected autologous platelet-rich plasma acts as a biologic scaffold that initiates a “structure and signals” process that drives the 5 major steps of physiological wound healing:
- Formation of tri-dimensional fibrin strands that function as a bioactive “scaffold”.
- Platelet mediated release of growth factors in their biologically optimized ratios.
- Chemo attraction of macrophages and stem cells to the site of the bioactive ‘scaffold’.
- Stem cell proliferation and differentiation in the vicinity of the bioactive ‘scaffold’.
The Many Benefits of PRP Filler Include:
- Tissue regeneration and rejuvenation: neo-collagenesis, neo-vascularisation, and extracellular matrix formation
- Cellular expansion of several cell types e.g. fibroblasts, collagen, elastin, keratinocytes, and white blood cells, etc
- PRP is non-allergenic because it is a ‘body own’ physiological product vs. synthetic or animal-derived
- Increases rate of healing process
- Eliminates donor transmissible infections
What To Expect
First, a topical anesthetic cream is applied 20 – 30 minutes prior to treatment. Next, a small amount of blood will be drawn from your arm and your platelets concentrated in our lab.
The type of treatment you are receiving will determine the injection technique. Linear threading, fanning, cross-hatching, and mesotherapy are common methods used.
You may experience some bruising and swelling; this is usually minor and resolves quickly. It is advised to forego any icing, anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin or ibuprofen as these can impair platelet activation. Pain is minimal to non-existent.
A Treatment Schedule for All Ages
At the age of 27 years, we begin to produce less and less collagen and elastin, and the skin aging process begins. Skin aging can be accelerated by environmental factors, such as pollution and UV damage, and by one’s lifestyle choices, such as alcohol, smoking, poor diet choices and lack of exercise.
Between the ages of 30 – 39 years is when skin rejuvenation and prevention should begin. To slow down the aging process one treatment every 1 – 2 years is usually sufficient.
From age 40 – 49, the goal is not only to rejuvenate the skin, but also to reverse the aging process. More stimulation of collagen and elastin production is necessary. Your first treatment should be followed by another at 6 months and a third treatment 9 months after that. Subsequent treatments every 12 – 18 months will keep your skin healthy-looking.
At age 50 years and older, we may need a more intense reversal of the aging process. Your initial treatment should be followed by a second treatment at 3 – 4 months, and a third at 6 months. Maintenance treatments should be scheduled every 12 months.
Preparing for Treatment
Patients are advised to begin taking nutrients that stimulate fibroblasts to produce more collagen, including Vitamin C (1000 – 2000 mg daily), and Vitamin D (1000 – 2000 iu daily). Topicals such as Rejuvenating Serum, Vitamin C and retinol cream are recommended before and after treatment to activate the fibroblasts.
Avoid anti-inflammatory agents such as aspirin or ibuprofen for 7 – 14 days prior to treatment and again 7 – 14 days post-treatment.
